Cold Pressed Oils

Seeds or nuts are pressed mechanically at low temperatures to extract oil — without heat, without chemical solvents. That's it. The process is slower and yields less oil per batch than industrial refining, but it doesn't strip out what's naturally present in the seed.

Conventionally refined oils go through high-heat extraction, solvent use (typically hexane), bleaching, and deodorising. Each step reduces naturally occurring compounds. Cold pressing skips all of that.

A 2025 study in Scientific Reports confirmed that cold pressed oils retain significantly higher levels of bioactive compounds than refined equivalents.¹

Because the oil reflects the seed it came from — its variety, the soil, whether the land was irrigated or rain-fed, and when in the season it was harvested. These change from batch to batch, and the oil shows it.

Colour uniformity is a product of bleaching and deodorising, both of which are part of the refining process. We do neither. If you've noticed the aroma of our groundnut oil smells strongly of groundnut, that's why.

Variation is not a defect. It is what unrefined oil looks like.

Our oils are unfiltered. Cloudiness or fine sediment is natural material from the seed — it is not contamination and does not affect the oil. Commercial filtration removes this, along with other naturally occurring compounds.

Give the bottle a gentle swirl before use if you prefer the sediment distributed. Either way, it is safe and normal.

Yes, for most of our oils. Groundnut, mustard, and sunflower oils are well suited to Indian-style cooking including deep frying, tadka, and sautéing. Coconut oil works well for medium-heat cooking.

Almond oil and castor oil are better suited to low-heat use or off-heat applications. If you are unsure about a specific oil, write to us and we will advise.

Cold pressed groundnut oil is particularly traditional for deep frying in South Indian cooking — the ambade, the bonda, the chakli. The oil holds up well and the flavour it brings is distinct.

No. What comes out of the press goes into the bottle. No bleaching, no deodorising, no additives, no preservatives. The only ingredient in any of our oils is the oil itself.

Store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Keep the cap tightly closed after use. Most of our oils have a shelf life of 6 to 12 months from pressing, depending on the variety — the best before date is on the label.

Coconut oil solidifies below around 24°C. This is normal and doesn't affect quality. It will return to liquid when the temperature rises.

Yes. Cold pressed black mustard oil has traditionally been used in Indian pickling for its pungency and robust flavour. It is the standard choice for most North and East Indian pickle recipes.

FSSAI has a specific cold pressed standard for mustard oil — allyl isothiocyanate content of ≥ 0.20% w/w — which our mustard oil meets.²

Genuinely cold pressed oil has a strong, characteristic aroma — groundnut oil smells of groundnut, sesame oil has a deep roasted-seed smell, coconut oil smells unmistakably of coconut. Refined oils are deodorised, so the smell is faint or neutral.

Colour variation between batches, natural cloudiness, and sediment are also indicators. A refined oil looks the same every time because it has been processed to look that way.

We press our oils in our own unit in Bengaluru. If you want to know more about our process, the Our Process page on this site has more detail.

Millets & Ancient Grains

We currently offer: little millet (samae), ragi, bajra, jowar, foxtail millet, barnyard millet, brown top millet, black rice, red rice, brown rice, and Rajamudi rice.

All are unpolished and minimally processed. The range changes occasionally based on what we can source from farmers and aggregators who meet our standards.

No. We source these from farmers and aggregators whose processes we've verified. We do not grow or process the grains ourselves. What we do is ensure that the people we work with share the same commitment to minimal processing — no polishing, no additives.

Polishing removes the outer bran layer of a grain to give it a uniform, bright appearance and longer shelf life. It also removes a significant portion of the grain's fibre and micronutrients.

Unpolished grains retain the bran layer. They look less uniform and cook slightly differently — they typically need more water and a longer soak time — but they are closer to what the grain originally is.

The ICMR–NIN Dietary Guidelines for Indians (revised May 2024) recommend millets and whole grains as a core daily food group and advise reducing dependence on ultra-processed foods.³

Most millets benefit from soaking for a few hours before cooking — this softens them and reduces cook time. The water ratio and cook time vary by variety. A general guide:

  • Little millet (samae), foxtail: Rinse, soak 2–4 hours, cook like rice with 2:1 water.
  • Ragi: Most commonly used as flour — for mudde, dosa, or roti.
  • Bajra, jowar: Use as rotis or cook whole as a rice substitute.
  • Barnyard, brown top: Fast cooking, mild flavour — good for khichdi or upma.

We publish recipes on our blog and social channels. If you have a specific question about a grain, write to us.

Rajamudi is a traditional Karnataka rice variety — it was historically the preferred rice of the Mysore royal household. It is a medium-grain, unpolished rice with a slightly nutty flavour and a dark reddish-brown outer layer.

It has largely disappeared from mainstream markets, which is part of why we stock it. It cooks slightly differently from white rice — soak for a few hours and expect a chewier texture.

Yes. We offer millet pasta, noodles, and cookies made in partnership with a manufacturer whose standards align with ours. We don't make these in-house — the process requires specialised equipment — but the specification and quality standards are ours.

Skin & Hair Care Oils

No. The skin and hair care oils we carry are products from IG — an established brand in this category. We stock and sell them under the IG brand as they are. We don't modify or rebrand these products.

We carry them because they fit the same philosophy — minimal processing, no unnecessary additives — and because customers who buy our edible oils often ask for a trusted source for skin and hair care oils as well.

We currently stock Neem Oil, castor oil, Honge Oil and almond oil. All of these are traditional hair care oils which were (and are)used regularly. We also stock IG Brand Rosemery Oil, Tea Tree Oil and Lavender Oil. Please check the current listings on our shop for availability — the range may vary.

Cold pressed coconut oil has a long tradition of use in hair and skin care across South India. Because our edible coconut oil is pure, unrefined, and chemical-free, there is no reason it cannot be used on skin or hair — many of our customers do.

For any specific skin condition or concern, we'd recommend speaking to a dermatologist rather than relying on general guidance.

Orders & Delivery

We deliver pan India. Orders are dispatched from our facility in Bengaluru.

Bengaluru orders typically arrive within 1–2 business days. Other cities across India are usually 3–7 business days depending on location and courier availability. You will receive tracking information once your order is dispatched.

Yes. We press in batches and dispatch regularly. The best before date is printed on every bottle — we don't dispatch anything close to the end of its shelf life.

Because our oils are unrefined and contain no preservatives, it is worth using them within the shelf life printed on the label rather than storing them indefinitely.

Write to us immediately with a photo of the damaged product and your order details. We will replace it. Our refund and replacement policy is on the site — but for damaged goods we don't make it complicated.

Food products cannot be returned once opened. If a product is sealed and unused, write to us within 7 days of receiving it and we will advise. For damaged or incorrect orders, we replace without question.

Yes. Write to us directly with your requirements and we'll work out what's possible. Bulk pricing depends on volume, product, and frequency.
